IFRARED

Prestige Home Inspection Service uses infrared thermal imaging technology to identify problems in your home that cannot be seen with the naked eye.

How it works:

In the most basic of terms, infrared is able to identify the temperature differences in the building envelope. You can see where someone has walked barefoot with a thermal imaging camera. This is an example of how sensitive thermal imaging cameras are. The infrared spectrum is not visible by our eyes, however with an infrared camera we can see the heat that objects give off or leave behind. The environment has a lot to do with distinguishing an issue so we will cool the house as cold as we can get it to make the difference between outside and inside the highest that we can.

Can Infrared Thermal Imaging see through the walls like an X-ray?

No, however it can see moisture and temperature differences in the wall like no insulation or hot or cold pipes that are touching the sheetrock or changing the temperature of the sheetrock and often the studs are visible because of the temperature differences in the wood and sheetrock.

How is Infrared Thermal Imaging useful or important for your home inspection?

It allows the home inspector to see conditions that are not visible with eyes alone and scans larger areas faster for a more complete home inspection on your new home.

Q: Can I come along with the Home Inspector during the inspection?

A: Absolutely. ALL customers are encouraged to come through the home with the inspector. Your presence provides you with a great amount of knowledge of the home and also reduces the chances of information being lost in translation.

Q: How long will the home inspection take?

A: The average home inspection takes 2-3 hours, although there are several factors that can affect the length of the inspection.

Q: Will you provide an estimate on the value of the house?

A: A home inspection is NOT a home appraisal. The goal of any inspection is to inform you on the condition of the home and the installed systems only, NOT on the value of the home.

Q: Do you have evening or weekend time slots available for inspections?

A: Absolutely. Accommodations for every request for inspections will be attempted, with the only requirement is that there is daylight. In winter, it would be next to impossible to schedule during the evening, but during the summer, there are several evening and weekend time slots available.

Q: Is the Home Inspection done to the Ontario Building Code?

A: No. There is no way to know the standard used when the home was built or when upgrades took place. The inspection is a visual examination of the home and its installed systems.
